My DELL Inspiron 5150 laptop with Ubuntu has suffered from bad WLAN performance. A lot of PHY transmission errors in dmesg. Enough to force me to use the cable. (Blah!) It has a built in BCM4309 WLAN card and I have heard that the standard drivers do not work so well...
